M-commerce or
mobile commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services through wireless handheld devices such as mobile phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs). Known as next-generation e-commerce, m-commerce enables users to access the internet without needing to find a place to plug in. The technology behind m-commerce is based on the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). As content delivery over wireless devices becomes faster, more secure and scalable, there is wide speculation that m-commerce will surpass wireline e-commerce as the method of choice for digital commerce transactions.
The number of m-commerce consumers is ever-growing and the latest industry global report indicates that Asia Pacific leads the world in terms of using mobile phones for m-payments, accounting for around 85% of customers worldwide with Europe expected to catch up by 2012. The same report estimates that revenue from mobile content and services (excluding SMS), accounts for around 7-10% of total mobile revenues worldwide. Starting today, it makes sense for you and your company to introduce yourself to the mobile world.
